Clip-in Extensions

Alright, here it goes I am letting you guys in on a secret. . . I wear clip-in extensions! *Gasp* unbelievable right? It all started my senior year of high school when I decided to cut my hair short & than immediately regretted my decision. I’ve had numerous sets of them & I am truly obsessed! My first set was a challenge. I didn’t know exactly how to put them in & my tracks were constantly showing. I finally went to a hairstylist & asked for help & I haven’t looked back since. I am here to show you the easiest & most affective way to insert them. Here it goes. . .

IMG_3334

Above are the supplies you will need to properly place your clip-in extensions. Hairspray, a fine tooth comb, a brush, a set of clip-in extensions (I got mine at Mario Max in El Cajon, CA. off of Broadway. My set includes 3 tracks, but other sets may include more) & last but not least & not shown in this image is a hair tie or clip to hold your hair when sectioning it.

IMG_3335

The first thing you are going to do is brush out your hair. My hair is still semi-styled from the day before. I don’t wash my hair daily because it is naturally coarse & will get very brittle if I wash it every day. The main idea is just to make sure your hair is dry.

IMG_3336

The next step is to section the bottom layer of your hair. As you can see from the picture shown above you don’t need a huge chunk, a small layer of hair will suffice.

IMG_9496

The first extension you are going to use is the one with 2 clips, like the one shown above.

IMG_3341

You insert the extension by first hair spraying the root where you will soon be placing your extension.

IMG_3342

The next thing you will want to do is tease the entire layer of your hair where you will be clipping in the extension. This is just to assure that your extension will stay in place all day. I like to tease from the bottom upward as shown above.

IMG_3337

You will continue to do this from layer to layer, a total of 3 layers altogether. This is what it looks like when the first layer is applied & you are moving onto your second layer.

IMG_3338

Next you are going to place in the extension with a total of 3 clips to your second layer. I like to section off my hair for this one right above my ears.

IMG_3339

This is what my hair looks like with a total of 2 clips. Next you are going to apply your third & last extension. As you can see my second track is showing that is okay for now because no one is going to see that track once I insert my third extension & fear not you may overlap your extensions.

IMG_3340

Your last extension should have a total of 4 clips. I normally section off my hair for the third clip right above my temples.

IMG_3343

This is what my hair looks like with all 3 extensions properly clipped in. See how you can see the cut of my hair? Now what I am going to do is style my hair. Today like most days I am going to curl my hair just as I would if I had no extensions in.

There you have it the finished product! I hope you found this tutorial quick, easy & helpful. Please comment below with any questions you may have. Happy Monday & I hope you all have an amazing day!

Gatsby Girl Hair

If you are anything like me, you are always on the lookout for a quick, easy, and cute go to hairstyle.  Well, I have good news because I have recently fallen in love with this fashionable “Gatsby Girl” hairstyle. Let me tell you from first hand experience, this style is a lifesaver when your running late or on those days when your hair has a mind of its own. Its pretty, stylish,  and the best part is it only takes about 2 mins!! All you need is a headband, a hair tie, and a couple of bobby pins and you are ready to go.  Follow these simple steps posted below.  Trust me, your gonna love it!

IMG_2867

Step 1: The headband- This step is pretty self explanatory but I will talk you through it anyway.  Find a headband (I always prefer one with a 20’s vibe to give it the Gatsby look) and place it around the crown of your head.  Yep, that’s it for this step (easy).

FullSizeRender

Step 2: The Ponytail- Pull your hair back into a low ponytail that rests at the bottom of your head, underneath the hand band.  Make sure to leave a few pieces of hair out in front to frame your face.

IMG_2877

Step 3: The bun- Take pieces of hair from the pony tail and bobby pin them up around the ponytail. Make sure to cover the hair tie.

IMG_2861

It should end up looking like this in the back.

IMG_2859

Step 4: Finishing Touches- Curl the pieces around your face (if necessary), pin back any stray pieces of hair, and you are ready to go!

The Infamous Contour

Let’s talk contour!

Now I know what you’re all thinking, contouring is not an easy art. Does this go there? What do I use to contour? Why does it take so long? Is this supposed to blend? Well, fear no more! I am here to show you a quick & easy way to contour. Hooray!

IMG_3293

The first thing you are going to need is The Sculptor pen by Tarte (found at Sephora or Ulta)! This pen makes it so easy to contour & has a very easy application.

IMG_3292IMG_3294

Here is a look at where you should be applying your pen. Underneath your jawline, on both sides of your cheeks (right underneath your cheekbone), on your nose as shown above & on your forehead (I usually go from side to side). Keep in mind this pen glides on very easily so don’t use too much pressure or you might ruin your pen. . .yikes!!!

IMG_3295

The next think you are going to need is your E.L.F. cosmetics Small Stipple Brush!

IMG_3296

Keep your head up we’re almost done! You guessed it. . .now we blend! I like to blend the pen in a circular motion. Think of it as a pencil eraser, now you don’t want to make it so that your contour disappears altogether, but you don’t want to look like a comic book character either. The goal is to find the in between.

IMG_3297

And there you have it! The finished product. Fast & affective! I hope you found this tutorial easy. If you have any questions please feel free to ask!

When I am not at school I love singing, Pinteresting (I am truly obsessed), watching movies (specifically, anything with Ryan Gossling :)), hanging out with my besties (especially the beautiful Miss Jessekah), writing, catching up on all of those silly reality TV shows (The Bachelor is my favorite…Kelsey, I’m rooting for you), & spending time with my amazing family.  Mac & Cheese is my life, no shame!
